Outgrowing Your Environment

When it comes to finding a greater version of yourself, it is vital to understand that you’re also asking to outgrow your current circumstances. There are a few “heads up” points I’d like to share, that would have helped me tremendously when I was in my earlier stages of self-development.

1. Family & Friends – The closest to your heart are also the ones that test you most. Keep aware that each individual has their own path and you may shake up their views because of your unique way of seeing things, entrepreneurially. Simply put, because your life is aiming in a different direction to most in your families and they can feel it just as much as you can, but can’t identify the feeling as strongly as you. This isn’t anything to be disheartened by. As a matter of a fact, they may doing you a favour…

When an environment knows you may have something special to give to it, it first must push and pull at you in order for you to develop a “firm belief” within. When challenged by ‘small questions’ like “how are you going to make that vision reality?” It serves to challenge your mind to find the answers (no matter how long it takes) an opposing opinion can serve you to become a stronger practical dreamer, when taken in constructively. First they mock you. Then, they threaten you. Then, they conform to you. It’s a process.

2. Energy drainers – The conversational vampires that have come to suck your energy dry by asking you “why?” to everything you’re doing. Even though they feel they have their right to ask why? You have every right to avoid these kinds of people. There are literally millions of other people that would find what you’re pursuing, interesting. The more you link with these battery generators, the less you’ll have time for the drainers. Surrounding yourself with likeminded individuals that are on course to something great, like yourself, is the place to want to go. These people make you feel great challenge you in the right way. Where you can continue to gain confidence in your journey.

3. Committing to YOUR books – You don’t need to read every book in the world to succeed. Only the ones that you feel drawn towards and that are (most importantly) relevant to your path. It is normal to become obsessed with seeking as much knowledge about life as possible. But it’s the well thought out and planned books that you read, that make all the difference in your life’s work. What I like to do is to go through my book shelf and pick 12 books for the year (one for each month) and then I stick to it. This allows me plenty of time to read thoroughly and reflect on the knowledge I’m soaking in. It’s served me best, as opposed to smashing out book after book after book as soon as possible.

These are just a few little pointers to keep in mind when outgrowing your current environment.

Understand your closest ones.

Find like-minded individuals to generate your energy from and with.

Plan out your reading for 12 months at a time (specifically chosen to advance your path’s progress).
